A prominent citizen of St. John’s who directed her talent and abilities to affect the lives of those in need, both in the community and in the province. Ms. Perlin started a movement that would change how our community would view and treat children with developmental disabilities. In 1954, Ms. Perlin provided 6 children with disabilities the opportunity for an education. In 1971 the movement led to a commitment from the government that it was their responsibility to educate all children regardless of a disability. Today, the Vera Perlin Society is active in Newfoundland and Labrador to continue the tremendous efforts of Ms. Perlin with her ability, fortitude, and knowledge of life forever remembered.
