Bruce started volunteering in his teens when he helped organize a Scout Troop in Botwood. He remained a committed scout leader for nearly 15 years. He has been an active volunteer for all sports in the Central Newfoundland region including softball, broomball, hockey, tennis, soccer, baseball, badminton, and cross-country skiing.
Bruce served as a member of the Exploits River Management Association for fifteen years, emceed the Canadian Cancer Society’s’ Relay for Life event for 10 years and served as Secretary of the Central Newfoundland Waste Management Board for 8 years. Bruce was also a town Councillor with the town of Grand Falls-Windsor for 8 years. The Norris Arm North United Church Board of Directors and the North Day Celebrations Committee were also fortunate to benefit from Bruce’s volunteer efforts.
Bruce sites one of his most rewarding efforts as the School Breakfast Program for the student body at Millcrest Academy and Sprucewood Academy where he has been helping for over 11 years. He is a member of the Grand Falls-Windsor Heritage Society, a founding member of the Grand Falls-Windsor Refugee Committee and a member of Kiwanis Music Festival organizing committee. Bruce has given 42 years of service to the Grand Falls-Windsor Volunteer Fire Department, serving 30 years as their Captain! And just when you think there cant possibly be anything else left for him to serve as, he volunteered to be Santa Claus for town of Grand Falls-Windsor Christmas Parade!
It is because of this lifetime of service that Bruce Moores has earned a place in the Newfoundland and Labrador Volunteer Hall of Fame
